What started as an afternoon pastime quickly became a real friendship built around competition, community, and the simple joy of tossing bags. The more they played, the clearer it became: cornhole isn't just a game. It's a braai game, a backyard game, a people's game. South Africa was made for it.

The SACL was founded on that belief. That every South African should know the feeling of a bag dropping through the hole on the last throw. That cornhole belongs at every braai across the country.

What Is
Cornhole?

If you haven't played, you will. Cornhole looks simple, plays deep, and gets under your skin in exactly the right way.

Simple Rules

Two boards, 27 feet apart. Four bags each. Land on the board for 1 point, through the hole for 3. First to 21 wins. Cancellation scoring keeps every frame close.

Deep Strategy

Block your opponent, protect your bags, read the board. Cornhole rewards precision, psychology, and composure under pressure. The more you play, the deeper it goes.

Built for Community

Gavin Devine
Co-Founder  |  SACL Pro  |  The Godfather of South African Cornhole

Gavin Devine is a businessman, competitor, and one of the driving forces behind the growth of cornhole in South Africa. Widely regarded as the "Godfather of South African Cornhole," Gavin was the first person to import professional-grade cornhole equipment into the country, helping transform a backyard pastime into an organised and competitive sport.

A founding member of the SACL, Gavin has spent countless hours introducing new players to the game, building community, and raising the standard of competition. Whether mentoring newcomers, organising fixtures, or competing as an SACL Pro, his passion has been instrumental in turning an idea into a league.

Today, Gavin remains one of the benchmark players in the SACL and continues to champion the growth of cornhole across South Africa.

Daniel Veretnik

Daniel Veretnik is an entrepreneur, businessman, and co-founder of the South African Cornhole League. Combining a passion for sport with a builder's mindset, Daniel recognised the opportunity to create something bigger than a game: a structured league, a competitive environment, and a lasting sporting community.

As an SACL Pro, Daniel has quickly established himself as one of the league's most competitive players, earning respect through determination, consistency, and a relentless drive to improve. His rise within the SACL has mirrored the growth of the league itself: ambitious, exciting, and always looking forward.

Away from the boards, Daniel brings creativity, organisation, and long-term vision to the SACL, helping lay the foundations for what is becoming one of South Africa's most exciting emerging sporting communities.
